What the data says-many jobs will change | working alongside AI

Job Creation and Displacement

According to the World Economic Forum’s Future Jobs Report 2025, technology (including AI and information-processing tech) is the most disruptive force shaping the labor market.

  • It estimates that in the next 5 years: many jobs will be transformed; for example one figure said about 22% of jobs globally might be effected between 2025-2030.
  • Some reports highlight large numbers: for example, an article suggests up to 92 million roles could be displaced by 2030, but with a net gain of 78 million new roles.
  • In the U.S., the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that many computer/ computer-related occupations will continue to grow (software developers … +17.9% from now to 2033)

There are Jobs that are more Vulnerable versus Resilient

  • High Vulnerability: Routine, highly structured tasks (especially in clerical, administrative, office support) are most exposed to automation/ AI substitutions.
  • Lower Vulnerability: (or transformation instead of elimination): Jobs that require creativity, interpersonal skills, judgement, physical-manual skills, or complex human-to-human interaction. For example, the BLS notes that AI is expected to affect occupations whose core tasks can be easily replicated by generative AI.
  • Resilient/new growth: Roles with AI- complementary skills (i.e., human +AI working together), new AI-related roles (AI trainers, ethics, prompt engineers) and, roles in fields like healthcare, skilled trades, maintenance, etc. For instance “food preparation and serving jobs expected to add over 500,000 positions by 2033- by one data set.

Productivity boost but Possible temporary Displacement

  • A study by Goldman Sachs estimates generative AI might raise labor productivity by – 15% in developed markets. they estimate job displacement might be – 6-7% in their baseline scenario, though varying widely (3-14%).
  • The Dallas Fed notes: “There is very little evidence of AI taking away jobs on a large scale to date.” So while AI is disruptive, we haven’t yet seen massive job wipe outs at scale in the U.S. labor market.

What This Means for Staffing and the Workforce Strategy

  • When you are hiring today and planning for 2030, think about Skills over Titles. Does the candidate have adaptability, digital literacy, and strong communication?
  • Re-design roles to leverage AI as a tool: humans + AI= higher value.
  • Be Proactive: staffing the future means hiring for change- capability, not just current task- capability.
